Abstract

Non-ketotic hyperglycemia (NKHC) is an important cause of recurrent convulsions in the middle aged and elderly persons. Thirty-two patients (17 men, 15 women) with an average age of 58.6 yrs with recurrent convulsions and NKHC admitted to NIMHANS over a period of 8 years are discussed here. Fifteen patients were known hypertensives and fourteen patients were known diabetics, on irregular medication. Four persons had a history of TIA / RIND and 5 persons had seizures some time in their past. Twenty-nine persons presented with recurrent focal motor seizures with or without generalization while only 3 patients presented with generalized seizures. Hyperglycemia (average blood sugar 542 mg%) and hyperosmolarity (average 322) were observed in all. Seizures were controlled only after control of metabolic parameters. Radiological investigations - CT (7), angiogram (5) and partial autopsy of the brain (3) did not reveal any evidence of infarction either recent or old. Even the motor paralysis noticed in 21 persons at the onset of illness was transient in all except one.

Abstract

Shales/limestone, which are devoid of primary porosity, often act as the potential aquifers when they are fractured and/or weathered. An integrated approach employing photogeologicil, hydrogeological and geophysical investigations has now been attempted to delineate groundwater potential zones in such shaley limestone terrain at the southern part of Chandrapur District of Maharashtra. This cost-effective approach, which was focussed at sites delineated from aerial photo interpretation has helped in drilling of good yielding wells in an otherwise unpromising shaley limestone terrain.

Abstract

This paper presents a hierarchical approach for recognition of urban arial images in federated database systems. The paper focus on the separation of urban and natural images from the arial images based on color localization by segmenting the arial images with its region of boundaries. The regions which are extracted have been classified using co-occurrence features for the recognition of segmented regions. Generally there are nine distinct features to be calculated for the recognition of Arial image. The approach which is developed predominantly uses two local features like pattern and texture of the image. The proposed approach will increase the performance of the system under distributed environment. During evaluation of the system different variant traffic conditions are considered.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to formulate and evaluate the Indomethecin microcapsules for controlled drug delivery by emulsification solvent evaporation technique, employing Eutragit RL100 as coating material. Prepared microcapsules were evaluated for average particle size, Flow properties, Microencapsulation efficiency and invitro drug release studies. The drug-polymer interaction evaluated by FT-IR spectroscopy. They were found to be discrete, free flowing high percentage of drug entrapment efficiency and also retard the release for 12 hrs. The in vitro dissolution study confirmed that the formulations followed zero order kinetics and peppas release mechanism.

Abstract

In this paper, an approach to integral color texture invariant information with a neural network approach to object recognition is proposed. A color-texture context for image retrieval system based on the integral information of an image is represented as one compact representation base on color histogram approach. A general and efficient design approach using a neural classifier to cope with small training sets of high dimension, which is a problem frequency encountered in object recognition, is focused in this paper for general images. The proposed system is tested for various colored image samples and the recognition accuracy is evaluated.
